Facebook bugs 2013

Representatives of Facebook wrote that an External Security Researcher or Ethical Hacker who is part of their White Hat program discovered that there was a bug in Facebook which exposed personal data of over six million accounts. The bug allowed unwanted access of a person's contact information by people who are his friends or related to his friends.

Because of this bug, the contact information used by Facebook to recommend friends to a person and every number of invitations they send was unknowingly stored in that persons contact information. This means when a person download an archive of his Facebook account via Facebook's Download Your Information (DYI) tool, he was provided with the contact information of all the people who were recommended to him by Facebook or his friends. The contact information included only Email Address and Phone Number. No other personal information which can cause severe loss to any person was disclosed.

The Security team of Facebook immediately shut down the Download Your Information Tool and fixed the problem on the same day(in June 2013). They also said almost in every case the contact information of a person was exposed only to one other person and they also assured that there are no evidence that this bug was exploited maliciously.

There are many weak hearted afraid people out there on Facebook after reading such news they will start moving to other alternatives.
Is there an alternative exist as of today? I am not sure!

Facebook has reached 1.11 billion users as of May 2, 2013 and India is at 3rd position in top 50 countries list.
There are many alternatives out there Twitter, Google + and many more.
Currently Google + is gaining popularity very quickly and it would be the best alternative of Facebook. But who cares anyways, I would not be leaving Facebook for such a small mistake.
