About Common Rail Diesel Injection
The common rail diesel injection is the modern variant of direct fuel injection system. Common rail injection can be used for diesel as well as petrol. However, diesel engines are used widely in heavy vehicles. For diesel engines, this injection has a high pressure value of about 15,000 psi.
Working of Common Rail Diesel Injection
Piezoelectric valves or solenoid are used to control parameters like time and quantity of the fuel injection. This control is achieved electronically. The electronic control unit of the engine injects a small quantity of diesel just before the actual injection. This is done to lower the noise. This process optimizes the injection timing. It also makes the injection less explosive. Diesel engines have many forms of fuel injection. The major forms include inline pump systems and unit injection system. In common rail diesel injection, the fuel pressure must be generated for each injection. This means a lot of work and energy is used. The injector is a very important component of the system. It has hydraulic and electrical connections for actuating the nozzle needle. With common rail diesel injection, you get efficient and clean fuel combustion. This is the reason why this type of injection is so popular.
