Program Editor with Syntax based Coloring, Syntax Highlighting in IDE Seminar Report

An introduction to Program editor with syntax based coloring, Syntax Highlighting in IDE

Have you ever seen an HTML code? More often than not you will see code written in color . Have you ever stopped and wondered what these colors mean? Take a close look and you will see a pattern. You will realize that certain headers and words are colored in a particular manner. This method of highlighting is called as Syntax highlighting or syntax coloring. To understand this, let us compare writing a code to building a house. When you build a house, all the materials are easily identified by their shape and color. Hence we can easily distinguish between cement and wood. However, you have to mark the wood to be used for your doors and windows.

Now, imagine a situation, where every material is identified only by its color. This is the basic concept of syntax highlighting. Since, colors are the only way for a programmer to differentiate different parts of the code, every aspect of the code is colored separately. The red color for example, is used to highlight any exceptions or special instructions in the coding. Syntax highlighting is a commonly used method in the coding world. All programmers from C++ to HTML use this code to explain the functionality of the code.

All the popular Integrated Development Environment(IDE) has Syntax Highlighting feature in it.
