OpenGL Embedded Systems (Embedded software) (OpenGL ES or GLES)
OpenGL is an application programming interface (API) for rendering vector graphics. OpenGL ES is used for the same purposes in embedded systems. These include smart phones, tablets and so on. It is used by programs like video games to render 2D as well as 3D graphics using a graphics processing unit (GPU). This programming interface is multi-platform and cross-language. OpenGS ES is managed by non-profit organisation known by the name of Khronos Group.
There are three main licensing forms for using this programming interface: free, royalty and licensing. OpenGL ES has several versions. OpenGL ES does not make use of GLUT and GLU libraries. These libraries are utility toolkit and utility libraries respectively. OpenGL ES has its own version of shading language known as OpenGL ES SL.
Till date, there have been 3 main versions of OpenGL ES. All the released version are:
OpenGL ES is available for all the leading platforms and OS like Android, BlackBerry, WebOS and so on. The acceptance of this application programming interface grew with every new version.
