Illumination with Solid State lighting Seminar Abstract, Report

An Introduction to Illumination with Solid State lighting
Solid State Lighting (SSL) deals with using semiconductors to emit light. Light emitting diodes (LED) are used in this process. Since light emitting substance is used in this process, it is known as Illumination with solid state lighting. Polymer Emitting diodes or Organic diodes are used in this process instead of lamps. This phenomenon is often used in street lighting and modern vehicles. It is a cheaper and better option to traditional lighting devices. These devices take less power and are more efficient. The light emitted from solid state lighting is more beautiful. Illumination from such sources also creates less heat generation.

These lights are cheap. The small mass of these light sources offers greater resistance to shock and vibration. These devices have longer life span than light bulbs. LED lamps are the best example of solid state lighting. Over the years there have been many improvements in the productions of light sources using this technology. The first use of solid state lighting dates back to 1962. In the coming years, solid state technology will completely replace vacuum tubes. Use of semiconductors greatly improves the illumination and the cost of making of light sources. Thus, solid state lighting is rapidly changing and the hi-tech way of lighting.
