Homo Polar Generator, seminar abstract, report

An Introduction to Homo Polar Generator (HomoPolar Generator)
The first homo polar generator was created in the year 1831 by Michael Faraday. It was the first magneto hydro dynamic generator. The electrical power is generated by a fluid which carries electricity with a magnetic field in MHD generators.

Working of Homo Polar Generator
The homo polar generator consists of a horseshoe magnet. You can find that the space between the two poles of the magnet was used to rotate a copper disc. The major advantage was that you can get high value current. But DC voltage was too low. If we compare it to other generators, the output voltage of the homo polar generator never changes its polarity. In order to avoid heavy losses at the low voltage generated, the electrical contacts should be made up of brush or slip ring.

Developments
Earlier dynamos were used in homo polar generator. These dynamos work by using magnetic fields. Though it was inefficient but gave a path to generating power using magnetism. The combination of a magnet and disc in a single rotating part was made. In 1950s, the homo polar generators were given a rebirth. It was utilized as a source of pulsed power stored. These were used for storing mechanical energy by using compact disks in the form of flywheels.
