An Introduction to Detection and Tracking Algorithms for IRST
IRST refers to Infra-red Search Track(fast infrared search and track reconnaissance sensor). It is a way of tracking infra-red radiations of objects which emit them. These include helicopters and planes. This helps in tracking their motion and position. There is a complex algorithm which is used in the tracking process. Passive electro
optical sensors are used in this process. An IRST system uses thermal sensors to for detection purposes. This thermal sensor detects the thermal signature of target objects. This signature is used by the tracker which gives information about the co-ordinates of the object. This information is then given to servo control unit. This servo control controls the sensor head.
The display unit is where the complete target information is displayed. Thus sensors
, tracking unit and display unit from the parts of search tracking system. There are also multiple tracking systems which have a signal processing unit which converts signals received from the sensors and further processing is carried out. Estimation is another process which is used to select a point in the sample space. Gaussian noise is an important factor that is considered while determining the exact location of the target in space. Pixel signal level and probability density are the two parameters against whom a graph is obtained which gives the target signal and threshold
