Carplay cars 2014 Technology Seminar abstract, report

Previously known as iOS in the Car Car Play is a standard developed by Apple. It allows devices with iOS operating system to function with inbuilt automobile dashboard display units. Car play is available for all iPhones which operate on iOS 7.1 or later and use Lightening. Lightening is Apples proprietary power connector and computer bus used to connect various Apple devices, viz. iPhones, iPods and iPads to host computers and other external devices. It was released as iOS in the car on 10th June 2013 at Apple Worldwide Developers Conference; it was renamed as Car Play and officially launched on 3rd March 2014 for general public at Geneva Motor Show.

During the development phase, it Codename was Stark. The purpose of Car Play is to provide direct access over iOS devices functionality, usage and control using an automobile inbuilt dashboard control system. Further to its release, Apple announced through their website that Car Play will work with all Lightening-enabled iPhones. Currently these phones are 5, 5C and 5S models.

It Incorporates Various Functions Such As:

• Satellite navigation for easy navigation and route correction.
• Music control over iOS music applications.
• Control over message reception and response through iMessage.
• Eye free mode for eye free and hands free operations.
• Telephony system control and instructions.
