ATM Networks (Asynchronous Transfer Mode)

An introduction to ATM Networks (Asynchronous Transfer Mode)
2011-11-02 18:52:03
Asynchronous Transfer Mode is a communication standard that uses a high-speed form of packet switching network as the transmission media.
Let us define the ATM network a connection-oriented, packet-switched network with the ability to transport heterogeneous services irrespective of characteristics across the same underlying physical network.
ATM networks were designed with the extremely high quality and high speeds of existing transmission systems in mind, and the potential future trend in the development of a multitude of services with diverse communication requirements, resulting in a flexible and future-safe network.

For taking a seminar on ATM Networks, you need to collect various information on the following points
  • ATM Adaptation Layer -AAL
  • ATM Traffic Management
  • ATM Networks: Issues and Challenges Ahead
  • ATM Physical Layers
  • Multiprotocol over ATM -MPOA
  • ATM Signaling
  • Private Network to Node Interface -PNNI
  • ATM Broadband Inter-Carrier Interface
  • ATM Residential Broadband (RBB)
  • Voice and Telphony over ATM (VTOA)
  • Wireless ATM -WATM
  • ATM Audiovisual Multimedia Services -AMS
  • ATM Name Service -ANS
  • ATM Application Programming Interface -API
